14th February 2011

Off to Bournemouth tomorrow soI thought best get on with some house work and sort out my bag just in case anything needed washing.

Went to the solicitors, signed the sale of contract for the bungalow. I hope it goes through soon, not having to pay the mortgage on it will be a huge relief.

Played Harry Potter on the Wii for a couple of hours. Richard was in a grump, not sure why, but then I can't really moan I am always snappy!

13th February 2011

We woke up yesterday to very low cloud but dry. This
prompted us to stay in bed a lot longer than we should have as once the day started to emerge we were way behind in getting organised to get going to start our land art. You think I would have learnt by now to get things organised the night before such as sandwiches, boots etc but it seems no matter what age you are if you are inclinded to be unorganised then that is how it is!!

We set off to Clougha to get a slab of rock for Richard, he to use a certain type of rock so Clougha is the best place. We then came back home to collect our welllies!!!! That done, we set off for the Forest of Bowland where we set up a camp for the afternoon!

First of all I made this, I found a very good silver birch log which I used to make the main V shape in between the two trees. Then I scoured for some good branches to lodge in. It wasn't easy to find the branches, there lots around bu they were too soft to use. I was trying to make a very modern looking piece of land art and I was pleased with the effect I managed to create.

I then decided I ought to eat some lunch, it was nearly 2.30pm by now and I was feeling hungry, when I start to do land art or any art I get very absorbed and forget about eating or drinking until I start to feel very grumpy and the art isn't going to plan, which is probably due to low blood sugar causing a lack of proper concentration. Richard notices it in me straight away and I get reprimanded for not taking care of myself!

I wanted to make something with mud and I am particulary fascinated with Frasers Spiral

11th February 2011

Been a funny day today, not got into a good flow with anything, flitting from this to that and not achieving a lot.

The weather started off dull and drizzly, temperature around 8 which is where it has stayed most of the day. The sun tried to emerge around lunch time but only briefly.

President Mubarak stepped down from power today, I have been watching the BBC news, when it was announced that he was stepping down there was a huge roar from the Egyptians in Tahrir Square. I have never taken much notice of what goes on in Egypt until now, I did not know that the Mubarak regime was bad and that the people hated him and had been repressed by his regime for many years. I am so glad that they have been brave in holding the 3 week protests to rid him of his power and will keep watching to see what happens to them in the future. We might get fed up with our government in this country sometimes but at least we are able to live our lives freely and have the freedom of speech.

We went into town at lunch time, I collected my train tickets for my trip to Bournemouth, looking forward to seeing Harry and George again. The ticket cost me £50.00 one way, I am hoping to get a lift with Colin and Laura on the way back. Colin and Laura are planning on going down on Saturday 19th as they want to collect a load of baby gear from Helen. Now Colin has a nice car I don't mind travelling 6 hours in the car with him, it was pretty awful in his old banger the last time I travelled down South with them!

I bought some spray paint for my Gormley sculpture, I'm really looking forward to using it!

You know when you get that afternoon sleepy eyed lull after lunch, that was me, I could not keep my eyes open so I went for a snooze, how lucky am I that I am able to do that when I feel like it! Sometimes when I look at other peoples blogs with lots of pictures of art and craft they have done that day I am very jeolous and wonder how they manage to get all these things done and write about it, so that is my next challenge to put more effort into doing some art everyday, it makes it sound like I do not want to do it, I do, but I let other things get in the way which I am not going to do anymore!

We are going out to do some art tomorrow, look forward to that.

10th February 2011

I've not had the  chance to catch up until today.

Monday 6th Feb was extremely windy with intermittent showers. Carol and I met up from the shop to go for a walk. We had planned to do Nicky Nook but unfortunately Carol had to be back for 1pm so I decided to take her on our canal round. Carol is local to the area and has lived here all her life, she is in her late 50's but has never done the walk, only the canal section.

Carol's dog Benji a super 7 year old black and white collie had never been over a stile in his life before, I have to say I was amazed. He was nervous about going over and we ended up have to drag him across unless we were able to get him to go underneath!

There are spring lambs in the fields already, we kept Benji on the lead as he has not had experience of sheep, Carol seemed to think that because he is a sheep dog  that he automatically would be ok with them, but that is not true, a dog is a dog and they are trained to be ok with sheep and are not always naturally sheep friendly!

I slipped going down the steep hill, I had hold of Benji on his lead and he pulled but not excessively, the problem was all the rain we have had lately, the ground is completely sodden, no grip on my very worn boots so it was inevitable I would end of on my arse! Luckily it was a soft landing and the only way I suffered was from embarressment and having a brown bottom!

We arrived back home safely and I waved Carol goodbye. It was a good walk, I liked being able to take someone out who is new to country walking and showing them a different side to it. We will be going out again next month!

Tuesday 8th February.

I spent quite a few hours drumming up business for the land art workshops, writing letters to schools etc, I was pleased as I managed to get quite a bit done, the sense of achievement was good! I popped over to Ginny's my neighbour for a cuppa, she is a drama lovvie and has her own business running drama classes. I wanted to see Cassie the cat, I have missed Cassie since Ginny came home from Australia, Cassie remembered me and let me stroke her and pick her up.

I took over our land art books for Ginny to have a look at and she was impressed enough to ring me and say how amazed she is by the sculptures. Even though I had explained what we do she had no idea what land art really meant. Apparently she has a friend who is an artist and runs her own studio, Ginny wants to show her the books, it will be interesting to hear what another artist makes of them.

Wed 9th February

Off to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park today. We wanted to see the David Nash exhibition again, before it ends on the 28th February. It completely blew us away the first time we went. David's sculptures are amazing, the amount of work he must put into each one. The smell, the texture and colours of the wood made the senses go into overtime. I wish we could have the park to ourselves, it wasn't busy at all, but I would love to walk around it with no one else about, I would also love to meet David Nash and see where he works at his Church in Wales.

We had fish and chips from the local chippie when we got back, it was getting on and we did not feel like cooking, a good day.

10th

It was foggy first thing this morning. It hung around until about 10ish then the sun broke through. It has been a lovely sunny day all day, the washing is out and even though it is sunny I am not sure it will dry as there is very little wind. I have been finishing off my school land art letters and I am glad to say I have finished all the local Lancashire schools, some I will send via email, Im sure it will get more attention via email, I really hope I get at least one booking!

I have a lot of art inspiration going on in my head at the moment. One in particular is starting to forge ahead. I am creating a Anthony Gormley sculpture and I will post a photo on here as soon as it is finished. I just hope it lives up to my expectations and Mr Gormley's presuming he will ever see it!

Anyway, I think I might get on with something else now that does not involve the computer, my hands are feeling quite achey from all the key board work I have done today!

6th February 2011

Another wet and windy day, we have been very bad as we did not get up until 12pm, wow how bad is that! I feel like a teenager again! I do feel guilty getting up that late, but doing it once in a blue moon I won't beat myself up too much about it!

We had brunch then went for a stroll around the cemetry and park. Read books, watched telly, that's it for the day! Rich cooked delicous spicy meat balls for tea. Here's hoping next weekend is drier and brighter!

5th February 2011

Rich is fed up with me feeling sorry for myself and has decided it is definitely de-hydration rather than a continual cold. All day I have been plied with pint glasses of water and even though I hate to admit it I am starting to feeling better.

We went to the library in protest against the government closing libraries, they think that libraries are outdated and too much of an exspense for the government to bear. This is not good news as librarys are a vital facility for many people. Once they have gone they will never come back, the governement just seem to be taking away things that will never be replaced, it's wrong and it seems to be the average working family that are going to be suffering from their cutbacks, where as the wealthier in our society have probably never been in a library and why should they when they can afford to buy their children any books they need!  We took out quite a few books, mostly art books and went  home.

The weather is horrible again so does not inspire to get you out on a walk or doing land art! Rich cooked us dal bhat for tea which was lovely, it has been a simple and nice day, what more could you ask for.

4th February 2011

Had a day of not doing a lot, this cold is very stubborn and if it did not affect my head so much I would be ok, but I just can't shift the headache.

Went to Colin and Laura's, Colin loved his birthday pressie, I bought him a Somerset Monopoly as he was born in Weston-Super-Mare which was actuallyin Avon at the time 1980 then they changed it to Somerset!

We had a nice meal out at a pub in Giggleswick. Even though I was not feeling great I was determined to enjoy myself and I did.

The wind and rain have been howling all day and it was pretty fierce and on our way home, lots of things being blown about, the weather up North has been pretty dismal of late!

3rd February 2011

Colin's birthday today,31 years old! I feel far to young to have a son of 31 years, I still feel 31 myself, mentally anyway!

Not seeing Coling today, catching up with him tomorrow evening.

Feeling a bit rough today, all the dust on top of my cold has not done me a lot of good. Just going to get on with sorting out the piles of paper work and then will have a chill out this afternoon.

Went to the shop to see Carol, we are planning on doing a walk on Monday, Im going to take her to Nicky Nook. Carol is not a big walker and suggested a walk with no hills, Nicky Nook only has one hill 230 metres, I'm hoping she will be ok with that, there is a wooden seat half way up a convenient rest stop if necessary.

Had a bacon sandwich for lunch, and a custard tart from the shop. Rich gets home about 6pm today. Have made turkey fricasse from turkey left over at Christmas for tea tonight.

2nd February 2011

Oh my what a day it has been so far, I have had enough now and will be winding down very soon. Rich left early to go to Tunbridge Wells, I got up not long after wanting to start on my re-organsing the spare room!

I had brekkie then started to make Colin's birthday card, painted some watercolour paper green, let it dry, painted a leaf lovely colours and then stamped it on the waterpaper. Stuck the paper to a blank card and hey presto a card for Colin, not too bad if I say so myself!

Then started on the spare room, OMG, I wish I had not started this, the dust is immense, I can never get in there, Rich has it so cluttered up it just gets left and every time I walk past it I cringe, it upsets me it is like it and I have been wanting to do it for ages, I was hoping he would go to TW so I could get on with it. But after an hour I was seriously beginning to regret it. I have moved the furniture around, unplugged all the computer stuff so I could dust and sort that out and now I have been putting everything back, except the wires for the computer as I do not know where they go! Luckily I have this laptop!

Im almost getting there, seem to have more stuff than when I started but I will find somewhere for it to go. Lots of paperwork all over the place, I think that is a job for tomorrow. I will just make a space to get into bed for later and that will be it! I put a lot of stuff in the bedroom to make room to move, it is looking better so it has been worth it in the end. Have a very dusty throat, it would have killed Rich, he suffers from dust allergy so I suppose it was good to do it when he is not here.

Think I might have omelete salad for tea if I have the energy to do it, if not it will be a tin of soup! Been raining most of the day, very windy, the temperature has gone up to 9, Im not going to bother going out, get this job done first. It is getting dark out now, nearly 4pm.

1st February 2011

Started off cloudy and murky this morning, by 10am the sun started to show itself. Feeling a bit low today, early night tonight I think.

Went to Abbeystead for a walk lunchtime, some of the lake still covered in ice even though the temperature is up to 8 today. It is a very muddy boggy place, the weir is impressive looking and we studied it deciding if it would be safe to slide down it on a lilo! A bit further down from the weir is a big drop, so I don't think so!

Helen phoned this afternoon, her GP thinks she has shingles, hope not, so she is not feeling great. The boys are staying with granny Curtis tonight, she has them for two days while Helen is at work.

Rich is off to Tunbridge Wells tomorrow, work! He is not too happy about that. I will be able to get on with some jobs , no unit to play my music though, shame! He will not be back until Thursday night, so it is just me and Lottie for 2 days, :-(

Time to get on with dinner, tuna bake.
