31st January 2011

Ahh the last day of January 2011, the days are already starting to get longer, the birds are busy getting ready for little ones and the spring flowers are starting to poke their heads through, even though winter has not left us yet, there is a feeling in the air of spring to come.

The temperature is still low today 2, so not particualry warm. cloudy and grey, but it still feels good out there. I hung the sheets out on the washing line, brave or daft we will see, while I was out there the air felt good. Going for a walk at lunch time, putting the run off for a another couple of days, the cold is still lingering and I think a walk will do me more good. So off to do that now, it is 12pm already, where does time go to?

Went to Clougha for our run, I did do a bit of a run, once you get going it's not too bad. It was cold and the ground was hard from the ice and cold temperature, lots of grouse kept flying out from the heather and wild blueberry bushes which made me jump, the grouse that is not the bushes! There is a new crowd of sheep at the bottom of Clougha, they looked at me with amused faces, looking up as I ran past and then carried on with eating their patch of grass! Sheep are so funny!

Showered as soon as we got in, needed to warm up and have some lunch. Watched my daily episode of Drs, finished sorting out the bedroom, phoned Auntie Wendy re: Jen, poor Auntie Jen has a brain tumour, it was first diagnosed almost 2 years ago and she was only given months to live, it has been a living hell for her, chemotherapy for nearly 18 months, which did not work one little bit, and now just waiting for the inevitable, she is only 60, it's so sad.

Dinner salmon fillets with veg and home made potato wedges, played a hour or two of Harry Potter on the Wii, nearly time for bed! Another day tomorrow!

Sunday 30 January 2011

30th January 2011

I can't believe it is so long since I  put anything into my diary.

Just a quick up date from the 18th. We went running over Clougha on the Tuesday, the weather was good, I enjoyed the run a lot. On Wed 19th we did a walk over Nicky Nook, I like Nicky Nook, it always reminds me of the hills in Devon. Thursday 20th I went to the hairdressers, it is a newly opened shop, Jan the hairdresser works on her own at the moment, I was her only for customer for two and half hours! That is how long I was in there! I had a non permanent colour and cut and blow dry and was pleased with the result. Thursday afternoon I packed ready to go to Bournemouth and tidied up the house.

Friday 21st caught the 8.57am train to Bournemouth, changed at Wolverhampton, all went smooth arriving in Bournmeouth at  2.10pm. Helen, Andy and the boys met me at the station. Andy was going on a course in London so left us at 3pm. Helen and I took the boys to the park, it is lovely to see them, they are so gorgeous.

Saturday 22nd, day before George's birthday! Took them to Honey Farm, had a lovely time although it was bitterly cold. George had the pant's scared off by a loud cockerall which was funny for us but not for George! I bought him a marshmallow cone and a gingerbread man. We went home and Helen and I started to make George's birthday cake, a Wilson train from Chuggington. It looks good! Exhausting! Andy arrives home at 8.30pm we are all tired and retire early.

Sunday 23rd. George's birthday. Helen has put up the banner I made for his birthday, and I am quite proud of it, looks great up on the wall. George stared at it and said oooh! He has lots of presents already and gets stuck in. George is into postman pat at the moment, most of his presents have a postman Pat or Chuggington theme!

George has a party arranged at a local fitness club where they have soft play, 15 children and their parents! It was exhausting but great fun, they had a birthday lunch which was sandwiches, cake and fruit. A good birthday!

Monday 24th. Helen goes off to work and Im left looking after George and Harry, they were very good boys, Harry had a morning nap and George and I played trains and whatever else George wanted to do! Went to the park, had lunch, George and Harry then both had an afternoon nap (bliss) watched neighbours, Helen home at 4.30pm.

Tuesday 25th Helen off to work, looking after boys, have caught a cold and feel like death, the worst headache for a long time. Phoned Helen at lunch she is coming home, feel a bit of a failure like I have let her down, but could not cope with the boys and such a debilitating headache. Went to bed.

Wednsday 26th Headache mostly gone, still feeling unwell but ok enough to look after the boys. The boys are feeling unwell too. George is very pale and quiet. We eventually get out to the park at 3.30pm but George was not really in the mood, but we needed some fresh air so I persevered..

Thursday 27th Had to go to the bungalow to sort out the notes and x-rays, sorted them out for disposal, Thank goodness that job is done. Just the desk, computer station and junk in the shed to get rid of. Bungalow is looking very sad and unloved. Felt sad and stressed and cold no heating and trying to snow.

Friday 28th 9.55am train back to Lancaster via London. Have to catch the tube on my own today, Janice is busy. Bit nervous but I want to get over the hurdle of being scared of doing it on my own. Get my tube ticket £4.00 and make my way to the Northern line to Euston station. Find it ok, get on, after 2 stops I think I might be on the wrong one so get off and go back to Waterloo tube, but I realise I had been on the right one so get on the next one that comes along. Get to Euston, have a hour to kill before my train. Wander around looking a the shops and people, a bit souless train stations, they try to make it pleasant but it does not work, I think being a sensitive person does not help, too many people, lots of rushing around, noise, cold, tired, don't like it! Buy myself some lunch from M&S, sandwich etc. Get on train at 13.33. Get home 16.26pm. Im glad Im home!

Saturday 29th. Don't rush to get up, but should really as it is a lovely cold bright day. Poached egg and toast for brekkie and a slice of toast and marmalade, I like weekend breakfasts, relaxed and usually Richard cooks it which I love. Go to Tythe barn wood, a fellow flickr friend who owns a local wood has let us use it for our land art. Still feeling under the weather, I can't muster the effort to do any land art which annoys me, but not enough to make me do any! Rich makes a lovely little paper birch bark sculpture. Jacket potato and beans for tea and watch a film called The Kite Runner, which was very good.

Sunday 30th. Have caught up with my blog now, Cold, dry, damp looking, grey day. Poached egg for breakfast again. Went to a local boot fair, a particulary rubbish one, literally, so much dros for sale, disapointed. Looking for barbie dolls to buy, found none! Persuaded Rich to drive to White Lund where they have have a regular car boot there. In the middle of a industrial estate down a bumpy lane, wondering if we were going to get mugged. Not many cars there, in a covered unit is an array of more junk, but in amongst it what do we find, dozens of barbies and ken's, wey hey, dabby doozie, my happy exclamation words! Bought ten of them, need to get going on that project, it is going to be great, and a laugh!

Not going to get up to much else today, Rich is doing some overtime for work. Im going to have a tidy up and then prepare myself for many tasks for this week.

17th January 2011

Four days since I last did a blog entry, it is not easy finding the time or the inclination on some days, but that must surely mean there will be more to write, (probably not)!

Going back to Thursday 13th, lunch time we did our canal round, I like the canal walk. We go over the fields initially, it is a pleasant section of the walk, lots of sheep and soon they will be bearing spring lambs. They are so cute when little and they gather in small groups creating havoc. Last spring we watched while a large group of lambs congregated together and then proceeded to run the whole length of the field jumping and skipping as they ran, they did this half a dozen times, they also had a leader and he or she took great delight in getting the followers to chase up and down the field. The mum's took no notice whatsoever and continued to have their heads down chewing the grass!

We popped into the shop to get provisions and I had a quick chat to Carol and Chris.

Friday 14th we went to Glasson dock to do a bit of bird watching. I managed to get my dad's telescope from the house in Devon we went there in November last year and now we regularly take it out to do a bit of bird watching. I did not think I would ever get into bird watching but now I kind of like it. It is relaxing and seeing them close up with the telescope is great. I have been letting Rich do all the spotting as I find looking through binoculars sets off my vertigo, quite a few days last week I was having vertigo episodes, maybe it is something to do with my headaches, I don't know, but anyway I seem ok today so that is good, and I hope it continues to be so.

Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th were both miserable days, the rain just did not stop, lots of floods all over the place. The temperature was staying at a steady 9/10 outside too, but because it was so damp I felt chilly, I much prefer the dry cold days, at least you can wrap up and get out.

I walked to the shop as I needed to pop into the hairdressers for a colour test, it is the first time I have been asked to pop in for a colour allergy test. I have not been to this hairdressers before, previous places I have been to have never offered an allergy test for hair colour and I think maybe they should!

The last place I went to did such a poor job I decided to not go there again and so I am going somewhere new, it is a newly set up local hairdressers, Jan Kent the hairdresser is about my age and seemed pleasant enough, fingers crossed she is a good hairdresser too!

The rest of Saturday was spent watching TV and reading, can't be bad can it!

Sunday was a washout too, we got up late, had a breafast of poached egg and toast and marmalade then went off down the town to get George's birthday present, he will be 2 years on Sunday 23rd! We bought him a 5 hour postman pat dvd and a hooded camoflauge fleece top, Im sure his mum will appreciate both!

We then ended up treating ourselves to a Wii Harry Potter game and a Pikmin game. The Harry Potter game was very absorbing and a couple of hours flew by very quickly. We had beans on toast for dinner as we could not find the energy to cook anything then watched a very interesting art programe on a artist called Peter Howson, his work was amazing I was very moved by a lot of his work. All day I have been wanting to Google him and gain more info on his work but have not yet had time. If I could paint even a tiny amount in the skill he has I would be happy.

Monday 17th

A much brighter day today, the sun has even shown it's face and about time too. It is supposed to be high pressure all week so with any luck it is going to be sunny ALL week. I managed to get up quite early compared to my previous few weeks, 7.30am , it was great, managed to get so much done this morning, cooking a bit of cleaning and put together George's birthday banner, YEY! Now I just need to get the sewing manchine on it to finish off the binding, I had a bit of trouble with the machine so I have left it now till tomorrow, I'm a bit bannered out for the moment.

We are still looking after Cassie the cat across the road, I have been going over there about 3.30pm taking across a cup of tea with me and some biscuits and watch deal or no deal, and of course Cassie gets some company and a cuddle!! Ginny her mum get's back on Friday, I go off to Bournemouth for a week to stay with Helen, Andy and the boys. Looking forward to that, I'm doing the child care for the beginning of next week so that should be fun, I hope it is going to be dry so we can go to the park!

Best get some tea on now, chicken drum sticks in a sticky spicy sauce, yum!

Thursday 13 January 2011

13th January 2011

Woke up this morning with a start, 9am, now I am feeling cross and grumpy, entirely my own fault, I went to bed late again last night and could not get to sleep as I had been eating salted roasted peanuts before going to bed. I had made a list of tasks I wanted to achieve for today starting at 7am and had even set my alarm last night, it went off but I chose to switch it off and go back to sleep fully expecting to wake up at 8am, thinking I would push everything forward an hour, but 2hours is just too much! So now Im stuffy headed and grumpy!

The weather has been dull dull and more dull this week, it is definitely having an effect on my mood and there is also a slight drizzle to a big drizzle or in other words rain. I want to get on with the tasks I set but feel I have wasted precious hours so what is the point in starting, bit of a vicious circle going on here.

We went for a walk over the top yesterday, that is what we call it anyway, it takes about an hour and we go up the road, over the fields, through a farm yard, back on to roads and home. It is a pleasant walk when it is sunny, we did it in thick mist so you couldn't see any views at all. Normally you can see Williamson Park  memorial and the Cumbrian mountains in the distance, at the moment they look just stunning with their tops covered in snow. The field section of the walk is always a muddy slippy affair and even more so at the moment.Light weight boots are my choice of footwear, mine have been worn to death and let in water but I cannot afford any more and I would rather wear those than my trainers so my feet squelched as I walked along, Richard has the same problem with his trainers, they also have been worn to death and leak, what a pair we are!

We do have some funds in the bank now, but we are saving it in the hope of buying a house either later this year or probably next year so we do not want to use it for normally everyday living and just managing on Richard's wages. It is diffiuclt not having my wage, I liked the regular wage coming in but like I said before working at the shop was getting me down, so I need to get on, get on with my workshops which I hope will pay better money and give me more time. My head is feeling less stuffy now and I have managed to boost my will to get on with things. Adios for now!

Tuesday 11 January 2011

11th January 2011

Feeling much improved this morning to the point that Richard asked me not to be so chirpy! I suppose he has not been up all that long and having someone in a chirpy mood when you have not been awake long is annoying!

I need to rewind a couple of days. Saturday 9th, a lovely day, the weather was dry, bright and cold. Colin my son who is 31 in a couple of weeks time came over with his other half Laura. It was a belated Christmas get togther. Richard went off doing land art and we decided to go the the antiques place in Lancaster and then on to Heysham and the Royal Oak pub for lunch.

The antiques shop is an amazing place. It is a very large warehouse filled with anything you can think of really, from furniture to pots and pans, textiles, pictures all sorts of things. You could easily spend a whole day browsing in there, they charge £1.50 entry fee which is I suppose to allow them to stay open, even though I think most people going in would find it hard to not buy at least one item, so I think they do ok, I suspect a bit quiet during the weekdays.

We then went onto Heysham village which is on the way to Morecambe. Heysham is a pretty little village,  it's one of the places that Richard and I do our sea/beach land art. Tusker Colin and Laura's collie dog was with us and as she had been stuck in the car for a couple of hours we decided to take her for a walk first. Tusker is a great dog, she is a happy bouncy border Collie and loves people, sometimes a bit too much, she loves attention and Colin and Laura struggle to stop her jumping up at people, something you don't really want her doing, not everyone likes dogs and besides she often has muddy feet!

The sea looked impressive, it is the first time I have seen the sea right in up to the wall and as it was windy it was rough and breaking against the wall, the tide must have been very high. It looked like a proper sea, Colin seemed surprised when I said that, but normally the sea is very low here and it is often just a wide exspanse of sand and the sea out in the distance.

After  being suitably windswept we went off to the pub . It was the first time we had been in there,  Colin wanted to go in as it was in the good beer guide,  Colin is in to his real ales and beers, I prefer lager to beer, I find beers and ales a bit heavy on the palate preferring the  freshness of a cold lager and lime.

The food was ok and that is about all I can say regarding the food. The pub itself was welcoming and had a lovely open fire. I would probably go back in there for a drink but would give the food a miss unless it is is just a simple sandwich I was after.

We came back home and after a cup of tea and some homemade biscuits that I had rustled up that morning we opened our belated Christmas presents. I received a lovely filofax diary and some small bits and bobs for the kitchen. Colin liked his motorbike book and Beano puzzle that I gave him and Laura loved her Jamie Oliver cookbook.

Richard came home a hour later looking weary after spending all day making a leaf structure. He was very cold and hungry. Colin and Laura gave him his Christmas pressie which was a recent Hairy Bikers cook book 'Mums know best'.

That  is me up to date now, looking forward to the rest of the week. :)

10th January 2011

Awake earlier this morning, 6.45am so decided to get up. I had to get up in the night and take some pain killers for my headache, still have it this morning, hoping it starts to go soon, I try not to take to many pain killers as they end up not being effective and can even cause headaches. Will write more later if I can, the glare of the computer screen does not help.

Sunday 9 January 2011

9th January 2011

Sunday again already, late afternoon. I have been taking it easy today due to a niggly virus, probably the one Richard has been suffering from this past week. It's the headache that is the worst so I am not going to type a lot, looking down at the key board is making me feel very queasy, catch up tomorrow. J x

Friday 7 January 2011

7th January 2011

The only exciting thing I got up to yesterday was a stroll around Lancaster cemetry and Williamson park. We often have a browse around the two of those places as they have some good trees to use for our land art. They are next door to one another and as it does not take long to walk around the cemetry we always include the park too.

We saw some of the local park birds enjoying a rummage around on the bird table and a few squirrels joining in too. Im sure they were pleased the weather had warmed up a little and were able to forage for food they had hidden in the autumn months for the winter.

We met a lady taking her black labrador for a walk who had attended one of our land art workshops in the summer with her young daughter, she asked if we were looking for inspiraton, we informed we were always on the look out for inspiration!

As it was Richard's birthday yesterday we had a takeaway curry in the evening, something that we have been dong more often the past few months or so, mainly because we can now get it delivered to the door, the height of laziness!! If we had to go out and get it we would cook something ourselves!

Luckily we both love cooking and usually take it in turns to rustle something up in the kitchen. We often buy a joint at the weekend and the butcher always asks if we are having a dinner party or guests as we buy such a large one,we laugh and say "no, just us two"! He is used to us now and I think he asks just in case we say we are having a dinner party!

We bought a big turkey for the two of us, a eight pound turkey did seem a bit on the big side, especially when I struggled to lift it out of the oven. We had enough for sandwiches, made a couple of dinners out of it and then froze the rest, it will last us a while! I love turkey anyway!

The temperature had dropped again last night and this morning it was -1.It started to snow and we felt a huge excitement thinking we would be making snow and ice sculptures tomorrow, but it did not last, turning to sleet and then rain :( so disappointment! We cannot complain too much, we have had quite a bit of snow and ice this winter already much more than the average British winter, unless you live in Scotland, which we don't.

Lunchtime we went for a walk over the hill and down to the canal, doing a circular route that takes about an hour, it was nice to get out and get some fresh air, also popping into the shop to get some provisions I chatted to my ex work colleagues while Richard did the shopping! Chris asked me if I missed it and though I would never go back and I am enjoying my time at home I said did miss the routine and of course the work mates I worked with!

It is 4.40pm and even though it is now dark outside I have noticed it is not quite as dark as this time last week, maybe just less cloud around or that it is now starting to get lighter in the evenings, hope so!

That's all for today. J x

Thursday 6 January 2011

6th January 2011

As you can see I did not blog yesterday, not because I did or didn't want to, I just forgot. It is not easy to get into the habit of writing a daily blog, particularly if nothing exciting has happened and there is nothing to tell, which to be honest is most days in everyones life!

It was another grey day yesterday, a cold wind making it feel colder than the actually temperature which was 4. I live in a house with very little insulation, and until I end up buying a house of my own I will have to put up with it. Maybe that will happen this year or maybe not, it depends on how quickly the house in Devon gets sold, which will probably be slow because my ex husband lives in it and does not want to sell, do I need to say more, I don't think so!

I intended to go out yesterday but decided not to because it was cold and rain showers and that is the mood I was in. I did manage to get a couple more letters done on George's banner. I am not particulary good at sewing. but I am making an effort to create his birthday banner and though it is rustic looking, (which is a term for not perfect) I think it looks quite good!! I hope he likes it anyway, and as he is only 2years old I am sure he will.

We are looking after a neighbours cat while our neighbour is on holiday in Australia, (lucky thing), well Rich is looking after the cat really, we go over there and sit watching the tv in the eveing to keep Cassie the cat company. Cassie is a funny cat as are most cats, she will not let us stroke her and if you attempt to stroke her she scratches or tries to bite you, but she does not mind being stroked with your foot! She looks very grumpy and has a constant scowl on her face, Im not sure if that is her normal look or if it is because she wants her mum home and she is taking it out on us! I think she appreciates us going over and she definitley appreciates Rich going over to feed her! She has a cat flap so she can go in and out whenever she wishes.

I remember when I was a child, cats howling during the night, I used to think it was a baby/babies crying and on a very regular basis used to go into my parents bedroom frightened and concerned that someone was leaving their babies outside to cry, my mum had a hard job persuading me differently, but nowadays you never or I never hear cats howling outside so maybe it really was babies! (or possibly unneutered male cats trying it on with a female or showing aggression to another male moggy!  :)

Im going to go and get some breakfast,  it is 10.15am, this non going to work does have some benefits, for now!  J x

Tuesday 4 January 2011

The Title says it all!

It is the 4th January 2011, the 1st day for a lot of people to go back to work after the Christmas festivities.

I packed in my job just before Christmas, a decision I made way back in January 2010, except it was supposed to happen back then, but with  one thing and another I carried on with the job.  Actually I'm glad I did carry on, even though the work was at times mundane and it made my back ache I enjoyed the company I worked with and I think I'm going to miss them :(

The house is in a mess as per usual, and I am wondering where to start, isn't it always the starting that is the most difficult, (big sigh)!

I said to myself that 2011 is going to be my year and I have been full of positive thoughts and energy, unfortunatley that has dwindled a bit, mostly due to the dull grey days we have been having for the past week, overeating, not sleeping my usual hours and having a barny with Richard last night! I don't like arguments and do everything I can to avoid them, ie backing down even if I think I am right, but sometimes people go just that bit too far and it causes hurt.

I'm sure it is just a minor non communication on both our parts and we are both to blame, but neither of us want to back down and are now silently sulking like silly children, well I'm not giving in this time, I'm not!

My nature is actually a very positive one and I think myself lucky that I have the ability to look at the good side of life, the glass half full type of thing, you know what I mean. I don't like being around negative people and even if I try and persuade them about the good things in life I often give up on them, you are either a negative or a positive and I really don't want dragging down by a negative which they are very good at doing!

I am going to be getting on with my art projects this year, make a huge effort to get them done. I have so many in my head and on the go, I do wonder if all artists are like this, Im sure they must be. I am going to finish my banner for George's birthday, make my Anthony Gormley style art project, I will let you in on that one at a later date!

I have my land art workshops to promote, I am really excited about doing these, but at the same time very nervous, I have never been one for promoting myself, my parents always let me believe that it is wrong to be boastful about your achievments, I have decided they were wrong to let me think that, if you are confident in your abilities then you can do anything! That is what I am going to tell myself everyday, you can do anything!!

I have now talked myself into a positive mood and I am going to get on with it, yes get on with it, everything I want to achieve I am going to achieve and with gusto, let me out there.

I decided to have a bath at 4.45pm in the afternoon, a luxury isn't it, I don't have a bath on a regular basis, sticking to having showers because it's obviously more economical and quicker, but sometimes a bath is nice to have, I put in a fizz ball that my son's girlfriend had given a couple of Christmases ago. I have been working my way through my beauty/bath products the past few weeks that I have had in a draw for quite a while. I like to keep things for when I might really need them, but that is silly, why not use them when you want to, not when you need to!

As I lay in the bath I looked at my tree trunk legs and (big sigh) thought I must start my healthy eating and exercise routine, I am coming up to 50 in a few weeks time, (big sigh) and feel I must do something about my health and how I look, both contributing at times like most people to how I feel.

I did buy some black trousers before Christmas and planned on wearing them on Christmas day with a bright top, I didn't try them on  in M&S as it was really busy so I took them home deciding they would probably fit me. Actually they were too big, and a size 16 too, actually they were too long, a medium length, I must be a short dumpy size 16! :(  But not for long, I am going to be a short size (  ) will let you know that one in a few months

Best get the dinner on, salmon cutlets and veg tonight, I really know how to push the boat out! Back soon! J x
