7th January 2011

The only exciting thing I got up to yesterday was a stroll around Lancaster cemetry and Williamson park. We often have a browse around the two of those places as they have some good trees to use for our land art. They are next door to one another and as it does not take long to walk around the cemetry we always include the park too.

We saw some of the local park birds enjoying a rummage around on the bird table and a few squirrels joining in too. Im sure they were pleased the weather had warmed up a little and were able to forage for food they had hidden in the autumn months for the winter.

We met a lady taking her black labrador for a walk who had attended one of our land art workshops in the summer with her young daughter, she asked if we were looking for inspiraton, we informed we were always on the look out for inspiration!

As it was Richard's birthday yesterday we had a takeaway curry in the evening, something that we have been dong more often the past few months or so, mainly because we can now get it delivered to the door, the height of laziness!! If we had to go out and get it we would cook something ourselves!

Luckily we both love cooking and usually take it in turns to rustle something up in the kitchen. We often buy a joint at the weekend and the butcher always asks if we are having a dinner party or guests as we buy such a large one,we laugh and say "no, just us two"! He is used to us now and I think he asks just in case we say we are having a dinner party!

We bought a big turkey for the two of us, a eight pound turkey did seem a bit on the big side, especially when I struggled to lift it out of the oven. We had enough for sandwiches, made a couple of dinners out of it and then froze the rest, it will last us a while! I love turkey anyway!

The temperature had dropped again last night and this morning it was -1.It started to snow and we felt a huge excitement thinking we would be making snow and ice sculptures tomorrow, but it did not last, turning to sleet and then rain :( so disappointment! We cannot complain too much, we have had quite a bit of snow and ice this winter already much more than the average British winter, unless you live in Scotland, which we don't.

Lunchtime we went for a walk over the hill and down to the canal, doing a circular route that takes about an hour, it was nice to get out and get some fresh air, also popping into the shop to get some provisions I chatted to my ex work colleagues while Richard did the shopping! Chris asked me if I missed it and though I would never go back and I am enjoying my time at home I said did miss the routine and of course the work mates I worked with!

It is 4.40pm and even though it is now dark outside I have noticed it is not quite as dark as this time last week, maybe just less cloud around or that it is now starting to get lighter in the evenings, hope so!

That's all for today. J x
